My favourite Laurel and Hardy short is...
"Towed In A Hole"
This is the one where they are selling fish door to door from a car when suddenly Stan gets the idea to catch the fish and cut out the middleman which Ollie seizes upon because Stan forgets what he said as soon as he finished. They buy a knackered old boat and as Ollie is trying to fix and restore it Stan keeps sabotaging it with his clumsiness and stupidity.
The facial expressions in that episode are the best ones ever imho

I still like Japanese films and elements of it's culture to this day...on a subconscious level it may well be related to Monkey and The Water Margin.
Kung Fu as well but that was American...I'm sure that was repeated around that time too

I heard someone say once that they admired Charlie Chaplin but laughed at Laurel and Hardy, which seems about right to me. Mind you, Stan Laurel was every bit as inventive as Chaplin.
I like Buster Keaton, too.

I never got Charlie Chaplin at all. Why am I supposed to sympathise with a horrible little cunt who nicks a fat bloke's lunch, kicks him up the arse and then steals his girlfriend? In every single film it seemed.
Hanging perilously from a clock-face, or failing miserably to shift a piano in a sensible manner, is, however, very funny.

I loved watching Harold Lloyd but Laurel and Hardy were the kings.
I couldn't stand Charlie Chaplin or the 3 stooges.

Youtube, although a lot of the old stuff got wiped as the stations started to run out of analogue tapes and they wanted to cut costs.

I used to run home from school to watch this and Laurel and Hardy. They were always on throughout the 80's - 4:00 on BBC2

Except when he blew half his hand of and nearly blinded himself with a prop bomb, poor chap.
I'm not THAT old, but I remember a LOT more black and white stuff generally being shown on telly even in the 80s, especially on BBC2 daytime and Sundays. Just a lot fo old films, silent comedy, Ealing comedies etc... slung in to bulk out the schedule.

I also think there should be a retro kids tv channel showing classics from the 70's and 80's. The modern stuff my daughter watches is crap in comparison.

There should be a channel dedicated to the genre. Chaplin, Lloyd, Laurel & Hardy, Keaton etc
It's a shame it rarely gets shown on tv anymore
